Ramsey County citizens are petitioning to put a question on the ballot for the Nov. 6, 2012 general election.

The petition language is as follows:

RAMSEY COUNTY CHARTER AMENDMENT PETITION
RESTRICTION ON USE OF TAXES, BONDING AND OTHER RESOURCES FOR PROFESSIONAL SPORTS

We, the undersigned registered voters in Ramsey County, hereby petition the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners for the purpose of amending the Ramsey County Charter, as follows:

Sec.9.06   Restriction on Use of Taxes, Bonding and Other Resources

Ramsey County shall be prohibited from using tax revenues, bonding authority, or any other county resources to finance a sports facility to be used by a professional team, or to subsidize the operations of a professional sports team, unless approved by over 50% of those voting on the question in a general election.

“Bennett and Ortega refused to acknowledge the petition drive as a possible roadblock. "That doesn't have anything to do with us," Bennett told reporters after dropping off the Ramsey County proposal at Dayton's office.” — Associated Press (1/12/12)

RAMSEY COUNTY HAS SPENT OVER $342,000 OF YOUR MONEY IN ITS GOAL TO BUILD A STADIUM FOR THE VIKINGS!
as of Nov. 22 and THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE STAFF TIME

A line-item accounting of the county's stadium expenditures through Nov. 22 that totaled over $342,000 was presented to the Ramsey County Board at its Dec. 13 meeting. The information was requested of the County Manager by County Commissioner Janice Rettman, who estimates at least another $300,000 to $500,000 worth of county staff time has been spent on the project. The line item expense sheets do not include that figure.

Ramsey County is on its way to spending as much or more than Anoka County did when its staff tried to lure the Vikings to Blaine. For that failed effort, nearly $2 million was spent.
